While on the road this summer I spent a few days in Marfa, Texas. Marfa is tiny town surrounded by endless desert and cattle ranches, 3 hours southeast of El Paso. It’s got one stoplight and a population of 1,981. Surprisingly, Marfa has a bit of an art scene thanks to Donald Judd, a renowned minimalist artist from NYC that moved there in the 1970s and built a following. I spent two days there and was determined to find a few characters to shoot while in town. My favorite spot I stumbled upon was Quintana’s Barber Shop. I peaked in the window and it looked like it was straight out of 1968, complete with vintage football posters and photos from the last few decades of the Marfa Little League baseball team on the walls. I had a quick chat with the owner, Mateo, and he was kind enough to let me shoot some portraits on the spot while he gave his buddy Alex a haircut. Check them out below and peak at a few more new photos of other characters from Marfa on my site www.rossfeighery.com
